The Pennsport section of South Philadelphia includes Passyunk Square in the West, Queen Village in the North, the Delaware River in the East and Whitman in the South. This area was once a heavily Irish American community. The Pennsport area includes the waterfront of South Philadelphia, and the neighborhood has close ties to the industries that developed along the Delaware River (now known as Columbus Boulevard). There are also many residential homes in the area.

Considered one of the oldest areas of the city, it was long a working class neighborhood that became famous as the home to many of the Mummer's clubs that hold a parade at the beginning of each year.  A museum in the area attests to the long legacy of these clubs.
